The department was inaugurated in the year 1968. The department has academic, administrative and financial autonomy. The department has 934 UGC books and 947 general books in the library. The department has one computer for the department work. The staffs in the department update themselves by attending refresher and orientation courses. The Department is proud to say the following details about the B.Sc (Physics) students.

• 21 batches of students have successfully graduated from the department.
• No. of First three rank holders in the university exam is 17.
• Most of the top rank holders of the university are our students.
• The percentage of passes in the university exam so far is more than 66% and more than 80% in most of the years.
