NSS ACTIVITIES FOR THE YEAR 2007

            I.                     Our NSS volunteers are involved in service to organizations for the Blind – like The Institute for Blind, at Tirisulam where they record  +2 subjects on cassettes 

II.                  
“NETHRODAYA”, an organization for visually challenged is also served by our student volunteers from III computer science, Literature and Chemistry. They have organized and volunteered events such as “The South Indian Level Adapted Volleyball Tournament”. On June 30, July 1; “South Indian Level Adapted Chess tournament” on 26th August and Anniversary celebrations of Nethrodaya on October 7th

III.                 
Nine students from III computer science and Literature volunteered the “Sangamam” event organized by the Rotaract  club of Akash. It was a two days camp organized to educate and entertain 122 students from various NGO’s.

IV.               
A section of our student volunteers visit Connemara Public Library every Saturday and Sunday to assist the library officials in administrative work.

V.                 
NSS Volunteers from various department are regularly sent as scribes to write all exams for presidency college students, throughout the academic year.

VI.               
On rotation our student volunteers are involved in traffic regulation every day on GST road

VII.              
Student volunteers participate in various medical camps such as Narayana seva Eye camp,Kannappaar seva medical camp, organized by Hindu Mission hospital , on Wednesdays and Sundays, in and around chengalpet. 

VIII.            
Every Saturday volunteers visit Children’s Hospital Egmore and help the doctors in the maternity wards and regulate crowd at the outpatient wards.

IX.                
Two of our II Economic student volunteers are being trained by “NALAMDANA”, a non-governmental organization to be Radio-Jockeys. The programmes are conceptualized by our students and are broadcast as a programme from Monday to Friday to entertain the Tuberculosis and Aids affected patients at TB sanatorium.

X.                  
Our volunteers are seriously involved in campus cleaning at regular intervals.

XI.                
Thirty NSS volunteers attended a ten hour workshop on Aids awareness from 26th September to 4th October. Mr. sathyan, Field officer, Red Ribbon club, Kanchipuram district was the organizer and resource person.

XII.               
NSS volunteers visit ‘GOOD LIFE CENTRE’ , an orphanage for the spastic and differently abled children at Tambaram during weekends and spend time with the inmates.

XIII.             
on Medical coding and billing specialisatioin,organised by NSS, University of Madras and Lexicon, ITES BPO. Student volunteers visit ‘ST.LOUIS SCHOOL FOR THE BLIND’, Adayar on Sundays alone to read out lessons for students of the school and sometimes conduct classes also

XIV.            
Ten NSS volunteers attended a one day District Level Workshop on Awareness of Chemical Dependency, HIV Aids and co-infection at ASAN Memorial college of Arts and Science.

Ten volunteers received a one day training

XVI.            
Mrs. Mangayarkarasi, Programme officer attended the ‘Preliminary Consultative Meeting’ for adoption of 150 villages and slums

XVII.          
She also participated in the five day International conference held in chennai, titled Youth at Risk, organized by Rajiv Gandhi Institute of National Youth Development and common wealth Asia Youth programme chandigarh.

XVIII.         
Mrs.S.Bramarambigai attended the one day workshop for Kancheepuram District RRC programme officers on September 17th at Hindustan Arts and Science College, Padur.

XIX.             
On September 27th, she also accompanied 15 NSS volunteers and NCC students in paying tribute to Bhagat singh Centenary Birthday. They joined hands with Chrompet, New colony Residents Welfare Society.

XX.          
Ten student volunteers participated and received certificate after attending a one day programme on Drug Abuse and HIV Infectioin at DG Vaishnav College
