About Us

                 The college was started in 1968 with the munificient donation of 10 acres of land by our Late Founder Chairman Sri Nanalal Bhatt and Rs.6 lakhs donated by Cork Industries Charities Trust. The college stands in the name of our Late Founder Chariman's beloved wife Shrimathi Devkunvar. It was his untiring efforts and philanthropy, the co-operation of well wishers who lent their support for this noble cause, which took the shape of this women's college, catering to the needs of the lower and middle - income group families.

                 The College has efficiently rendered four decades of dedicated service to women students of this district, under the able guidance of Mrs. Sarojini Natarajan (1968-1972), the first principal, succeeded by Miss Saroja Swaminathan (September 1972-November 1973), Dr.(Mrs.) D.Thangam Seshan (November 1973-1997), Miss T.V.Jayalakshmi (1997-2002) and presently Dr. (Mrs.) T.Sumitra (from June 2002 onwards).

                    Unaided College was started in the year 1984-85 and PG courses were introduced in the self-financing structure in 2001. We have 10 U.G. Courses in the Aided and 8 U.G. courses and 8 P.G. courses in the unaided structure. The “A” Grade Accreditation by NAAC in 2003 was a feather in the cap to the committed efforts of the college as a whole. The crowning glory is the Autonomous Status conferred by UGC and confirmed by University of Madras in June 2006. The Board of Studies designs and develops career oriented and socially productive curriculum, with enriched contents, which is approved by the Academic Council and Governing Body of our college .

                    Skill based certificates courses are conducted to provide a strong platform for our students to face the current challenges in the job market. From 2002-2003 onwards the college has implemented e-Governance, in all sections of the college (Academic and Administrative System).Apart from this, under the E-edu Govern project the institution is offering computer literacy to all the students besides their regular class schedule The college is also an extension centre for I.C.W.A. Course.
