Biostatistics deals with the application of statistical techniques to health related fields including biological sciences, medicine and public health. The multi-disciplinary nature of Biostatistics demands intertwining knowledge of statistical theory and an understanding of the areas of its application. Eligibility conditions: B.Sc. Statistics or B.Sc. Mathematics with Statistics as an allied subject.

About the course:
The post graduate curriculum in Biostatistics include advanced topics on Probability and Distributions, Biostatistical Inference, Research Designs and analysis, Sampling techniques, Applied regression analysis, Population studies, Epidemiological methods, Applied Multivariate analysis, Categorical data analysis, Statistical genetics, Survival Analysis, Clinical trials and data mining, R programming and exploratory data analysis using SPSS.Students are also trained in SAS programming . As part of the curriculum students undergo internship in research institutions for two weeks and are given hands-on-experience in developing a research protocol for project work .They are encouraged to present research papers in conferences.

Our Alumni are well placed as Biostatisticians in Research Institutions - ICMR, YRG health care, CMC Vellore, NIE, JIPMER, Icon Clinical research, TamilNadu health projects, and research scholar in NIMHANS and as market research analysts. Some pursue M.Phil degree program in Statistics offered in our college since 2013
