The Autonomous status was conferred on the college by the University Grants Commission and confirmed by University of Madras in June 2006. The office of the Controller of Examinations (COE) was established in June 2006.

The Office of the Controller of Examinations is an autonomous body and is endowed with well-defined responsibilities and adequate authority to conduct fair and timely examinations (as per the academic calendar of the college) for the UG/PG/M.Phil. registered students, appoint examiners for setting of Question papers and evaluation for both theory and practical, continuous assessment, soft skill courses, conducting online exams, processing of M.Phil. thesis for evaluation and viva-voce, compilation of marks, presentation of results analysis report before the review committee for its approval, time-bound declaration of results, issue of marks statements and facilitate award of degree and ranks to the qualified candidates during convocation every year. In addition, COE reviews the examination pattern making periodical changes and sets guidelines for the conduct of examination and evaluation from time to time and ensures strict adherence of guidelines by the faculty members.

The Choice Based Credit System (CBCS) was implemented for all UG, PG and M.Phil. Courses from the year 2008-2009 onwards as per the recommendations of the TamilNadu State Council for Higher Education (TANSCHE).
