Department of Computer Science

 

The Department of Computer Science was established in 1988. This is one of the only two aided colleges offering Computer Science in aided stream under University of Madras. The self-supporting UG program was started in the year 2000 and PG program in the year 2001. The department is recognized as a Research Centre from August 2012 onwards.

·         Producing quality graduates trained in the latest tools and technologies, to achieve academic excellence in Computer Science by imparting in-depth knowledge to the students, facilitating research activities and cater to the ever changing industrial demands and societal needs.

Mission

 

·         To provide quality education to the students through latest technology development in Computer science.

·         To provide a learning environment that helps students to enhance problem solving skills, be successful in their professional lives and to prepare students to be lifelong learners by offering a solid theoretical foundation in computing along with applied computing experiences and educating them about their professional, and ethical responsibilities.

·         To establish Industry Institute Interaction to make students ready for the industrial environment.

·         To provide exposure to students to the latest tools and technologies in the area of computer software.

·         Provide up-to-date curricula in the technical and scientific knowledge needed for the professional and academic goals of our students

Self-learning components- spoken tutorial

About this spoken tutorial :

The Spoken Tutorial project is the initiative of the ‘Talk to a Teacher’ activity of the National Mission on Education through Information and Communication Technology (ICT), launched by the Ministry of Human Resources and Development, Government of India.

 (The Spoken Tutorial project is being developed by IIT Bombay for MHRD, Government of India)

Association Activities- e-INFORMATIK ‘15

The Department of Computer Science conducted the Intra Collegiate competitions on 6th, and 7th August 2015. Events were conducted AdZap, Connections, T-Shirt painting, Treasure Hunt, Collage, Paper Presentation and  e-Songs. e-INFORMATIK ’15 was held on 29/9/2015 where students from around 25 colleges participated. Mr.Indra Kumar, Head, Regional HR cum Faculty from NTRUST Company was the chief guest for the event. Puzzle, Match up, Code Champ, Brain War, Presentation, e-Songs. The Overall Trophy was bagged by Vivekananda College.

Certificate Course:

Certificate course on Cloud Computing was conducted for the III B.Sc Computer Science students (2013-2016 batch) and PG students.The cloud syllabus is framed in such a way to know the basics and the importance of cloud infrastructure and its services.  Duration for the syllabus is 45 hours.
