VAISHNAV CONSUMER CLUB

         The Inauguration of the Vaishnav Consumer Club was held on 5th August 2011.Ms.Kalavathy, Associate professor, Department of Chemistry and convenor of the Vaishnav consumer club, welcomed the gathering. Shri.K.Murugan, General Secretry of the federation of consumer organization, Tamilnadu and Pondicherry delivered the inaugural address and made a presentation on Consumer Protection Act-Depth and Scope and Consumer Protection Act. He enlightened the audience with unfair trade practices and misleading advertisement. The programme concluded with the vote of thanks.

The Vaishnav consumer club arranged a lecture cum demo on 22.08.11. Shri.G.Santhanarajan,Director,Concert Trust (A centre for consumer education,research,teaching, training and testing) spoke on ‘Food safety’ with the Visual clips,he made the audience spell bound and elaborated on the safety measures to be taken by each consumer regarding food articles.He also made a demonstration on the detection of adulteration in food and explained how to detect adulterants like starch,baking soda, DDT, oxytetracylin in milk which lead to retarded bone development.

Shri.G.Santhanarajan with his spot test kit did a small tests to detect adulteration in tea,kesar dhal in pulses and Agremone seeds in mustard.The programme came to a close with the Vote of thanks.

SMRTI 2011 was conducted at S.D.N.B Vaishnav college for Women on 25th ,26th and 27th August. On 25th and 26th the civil supplies and consumer protection department and the Vaishnav consumer Club had jointly arranged a stall at the college premises.More than 2000 pamphlets were distributed to the students and staff to create consumer awareness.The camp was organized by Ms.V.Kalavathy ,Associate Professor,Chemistry Department and the member of VCC. Ms.Sajithabegum ,Miss.Premavathy and Mr.Abdul Kadar from the consumer advise centre ,civil supplies and consumer protection department participated in the camo.

To Create Consumer awareness an out reach camp was organized by the Vaishnav consumer club of S.D.N.B. Vaishnav college for Women, Chrompet, Chennai at Erikkarai Steet,Ganapathypuram,Chropmet on 20th September. Mrs.Kalavathy ,Associate professor,Department of Chemistry and Convenor of the club gave an introductory speech about the need for consumer awareness.Dr(Mrs.)G.Rani,Principal delivered the inaugural address. About 70 Students participated in the camp along with the staff,Mrs.Rohini priya and Mrs.Kamatchi. Economic students of the regular college staged an interesting and humourous skit. The Chemistry students rendered an entertaining Villupattu.Street plays were attractively exacted by the commerce students of the evening college.The general pulic attended the event in good numbers. A variety entertainment was arranged by the students of computer science.
