NSS ACTIVITIES FOR THE YEAR 2011-2012

“Service to humanity is service to God”

          The motto of the National Service Scheme (NSS) is “Not Me, But You”. This expresses the essence of democratic living and upholds the need for selfless services and appreciation of another man’s point of view and also show consideration for fellow human beings

           We are proud to inform that our NSS volunteers participated in Social activities and showed their enthusiastic involvement especially during NSS Camp at Kancheepuram. The Camp was inaugurated by Mr.Dhan singh MLA, and his officials. Our principal Dr. Rani preceded over the function. At the camp site , Sevilimedu village, our volunteers have done their oodles of service to the poor people. They paid a visit to the silk weaving centre, have come to know about the hardships of the weavers, and created awareness about various aspects of enterpreunership and imparted technical skills to them.

           A group of volunteers involved themselves in cleaning activity at Kamatchi Amman Temple and regulated the crowd during Karthigai Deepam Festival. The last day of the Camp concluded with the session of Mr.S.Manoharan, I.P.S and Deputy Collector Ms.Lalitha . The session was very informative for all the students.

           The Camp ended with Valedictory function, Mr. Raja Hussain NSS Coordinator , University of Madras was the chief guest. Principal Dr. Rani presided over the function. On the whole the Camp was enjoyable, satisfying and a valuable learning experience.

NSS Regular Activities

• Participated in Road Safety awareness Programme Organised by the Traffic Commissioner of Police. Competition was conducted on “Road Safety”. Prizes were distributed by the Commissioner of Police
• Conducted Tobacco Awareness rally and created awareness among the public.
• Organised Blood Donation Camp in collaboration with Hindu Mission Hospital and Lions club
• Voters day was celebrated and essay competition was conducted on ‘Importance of voting’. Prizes were distributed
• Conducted Eye donation campaign organised by Shankara Netralaya Eye Hospital.
• Participated in AIDS Awareness Programme conducted by Red Ribbon Club
• Textile Committee visited and satisfied with the contribution given by our college in promoting handlooms. Competition was conducted on “Importance of Handlooms” and “ Role of youth in promoting handlooms. Prizes were distributed.
