ENVIRON CLUB
The inauguration of the “ENVIRON CLUB” was held on 2nd August 2011.
The Chief Guest of the day Dr(Mrs)Nandhitha Krishnan, Director, C.P.Ramasamy Aiyer Foundations, Alwarpet, Chennai-88, enlightened the students with her lucid and informative speech on Environmental Awareness. In her lecture, she insisted the students to follow the 3R principle (Reduce,Recycle,Reuse).She also motivated the students to go for eco-friendly products. Environment club proposes to implement the recycling of waste water, solid waste management and vermicomposting from this academic year.
Dr(Mrs)Nandhitha Krishnan initiated “Green Campus Project” in the college campus.
The Principal of the College Dr.(Mrs) G.Rani has already instructed the students in the campus to segregate the paper waste, plastic waste and bio-degradable waste separately by disposing them in separate bins.
The function came to an end followed by the vote of thanks proposed by Dr.(Mrs)K.Pushkala, Associate professor, Department of Zoology, SDNB Vaishnav College for Women.
"Go Green Process" is the motto of SDNB Vaishnav College’s Environ club. The College received accolades from Dr. M. S. Swaminathan, Chariman, Environment Educative Council, C.P.R Arts center, for its lush and eco-friendly campus. The Director Dr. (Mrs.) Nanditha Krishna proclaimed SDNB Vaishnav College as the first “Green Campus” among all city colleges in the annual award winning ceremony on 20th Aug. at Environment Educative Council, C.P.R Arts Center. On 24th Aug.2011. Dr.(Mrs.)A. Dhakshayani, Haritha NTI Ltd. trained by Dr. Sultan Ismail, an international celebrity on Vermitechnology conducted one day workshop on Vermitechnology to club members. Frequently, the club invites environmentalists and nature lovers to address its members whereupon environmental quintessence is infused in young minds for an eco-future. Green Campus project instigated its members to collect paper waste, plastic waste and biogradeable waste in separate bins. The club also encourages recycling of wastewater, solid waste management and vermicomposing on the campus. On 19th September, “Campus improvement programme” was celebrated by the club. A guest lecture by Mr. S. Indra Kumar, President, Home Exnora was an eye-opener in understanding the various low cost based steps, one can adopt to take care of the environment just around. He suggested various methods to improve the ecology of the campus. The Guest appreciated the rainwater harvesting in support of the vehicle speed breakers.
The club activities are monitored by Dr.(Mrs.) K.Pushkala, Dept of Zoology(Convener), Dr.(Mrs.) R.Siva, Dept of Plant Biology and Plant Biotechnogy(Member), Dr.A.C.Ranganayaki, Dept of Commerce (Member) and Mrs. Padma Priya, Dept of Chemistry (Member).Recycling of waste water, solid waste, paper, vermicomposting, energy conservation are the projects focused by the club
