International commission on Education for the 21st century have identified various tensions and crisis of the modern society and suggested four pillars to be constructed for strengthening the education system. These pillars are learning to know, learning to do, learning to live together and learning to be. At Vaishnav these four pillars are strengthened by providing scientific, technological and human value skills.
Human skills are developed by practising simplified physical exercises, meditation and introspection as per “The World Community Service Centre” Thiruvanmaiyur, Chennai guidelines. “Vaishnav College SKY Yoga” functions as the sub-centre of Balakrishnapuram SKY Yoga Trust
During the academic year 2014-2015 under the stewardship of SKY Professors A/N Nithyashree, A/N Thiruchelvi and SKY Assistant Professors value added education programme for 1500 III year students of both day and evening college students have been imparted in the month of January 2015. Students were trained in physical exercises, kaya kalpa exercises, meditation and introspections like analysis of thought, moralization of desire, neutralisation of anger, eradication of worries and realization of self.
Simplified Kundalini Yoga physical exercises and Meditation, Kaya Kalpa Yoga and Introspection classes were effectively taught which are the path finder to spiritualism. These classes have a lasting effect in the minds of the students and they continue to practice the art of yoga and meditation regularly and effectively to excel in their day to day activities.Every year through-out the 2nd semester of the year 150-120 students of both day and evening college students of Ist year undergo yoga practices in two sessions. 1586 Ist year students have been taught yoga practices during this academic year 2014-2015.Yoga practice has been given to students in 2 sessions first session in the morning for evening college students and the second session in the after-noon for day college students for two hours each. Once a week all Ist year students undergo yoga practices. Students are divided into 9 batches and yoga practices are taught on individual attention basis. Regular tests are conducted to check whether the yogic practices are correctly followed by students.
Yoga classes conducted in our college aim at developing harmony between body, mind and life force of our students. These classes would help our students to lead a healthy, happy and prosperous life. In fact it will have an everlasting effect on the minds of the students and they would continue to practice the art of yoga and meditation regularly which will have an impact through-out their life time.
